New traffic light system comes into effect for the EU

In regards to tourism during the pandemic, the EU has agreed to adopt a traffic light system for air travel.

The purpose of this system is to bring back free movement of people around the EU.

A German EU Council presidency described the system as an “important step forward” as it will lead to more “predictability and transparency” when people are travelling under Covid-19 restrictions.

The guidelines are to be fully adopted next week and will advise that restrictions should be non-discriminatory, proportionate and limited to what is necessary.

Depending on the degree to which the virus is controlled in other countries will determine if the country is designated green, orange or red.
