Nearly 25,000 samples taken for meat plant testing

Minister for Agriculture Charlie McConalogue appeared before Oireacthas Committee on Agriculture and the Marine this evening to confirm that as of last Friday, 24,824 samples have been taken to undergo meat plant testing.

The samples were taken under the serial testing programme which targets meat processing and food production facilities, the first phase of this programme will be completed this week.

The minister added that workers in the meat industry have shown a positivity rate of 0.41% for Covid-19 as the number of cases begins to decrease in the industry.
