A €338 million Cairn Homes apartment complex has been given the green light by An Bord Pleanála.
The apartments, which have received local opposition, will be built for former RTÉ lands at Montrose in Dublin 4.
The 611 apartment plan has had a total of 19 objections lodged against it, these objections include Ailesbury Rd Residents Association, the Austrian embassy and Ailesbury Rd resident ‘Pat Desmond’ who is the wife of billionaire ‘Dermot Desmond’.
Mr Desmond has vocally opposed the plan for the apartments and described it as ‘Ballymun Towers South Dublin’ in a letter to Dublin City councilors.
The appeals bord has stated that the nine apartment blocks with three townhouses would not cause any disruption to the residential or visual amenities of the area.
As well as not being a disruption to the features of the area, the appeals bord stated that the apartments would be acceptable in terms of urban design, height and quantum development.
According to the appeals bord Senior Planning Inspector ‘Sarah Moran’, who granted planning permission, the overall layout includes good quality public amenity space, as she stated, “I am satisfied that the development will not result in significant adverse impacts on residential amenities such as would warrant a refusal of permission.”
