Vietnam jails four people over Essex truck tragedy last year

A court in Vietnam has jailed four people over their roles in the death of 39 migrants found in a refrigerated truck in Britain last year.

The four defendants – between the ages of 26 and 36 – were given prison sentences of between two-and-a-half years and seven-and-a-half years by a court in central Ha Tinh province yesterday

They were found guilty of “organising, brokering illegal emigration”, it said, adding that three others had been given suspended sentences.

Three men from Northern Ireland were arrested and charged over the tragedy.
