Lisa Smith to go on trial in 2022

After being charged with membership of the terrorist group ‘Islamic State’ and with funding terrorism, former Irish Defence Forces member ‘Lisa Smith’ is to go on trial in 2022.

The 38-year-old appeared before the Special Criminal Court this morning where her trial date was set for the 11th of January 2022.

The trial is due to last for 12 weeks according to prosecuting counsel Geraldine Small.

Ms Smith could possibly face 10 years in prison as she has been charged with an offence contrary to the Criminal Justice (Terrorist Offences) Act 2005, charges to which she denies.
