Thousands evacuated as wildfires rage through California

Over 7,000 acres of land have been destroyed as wildfires rage through the US state of California.

Officials are blaming the cause of the fire on a ‘gender reveal party’ where a “smoke-generating pyrotechnic device” was used according to the California Fire Department.

More than 3,000 people have been evacuated from their homes due to the fire, which began on Saturday morning at El Dorado Ranch Park in Yucaipa.

Firefighters stated that the fire scorched 7,050 acres of land by Sunday night which lead to more than 200 people being airlifted to safety over the weekend at a camping area in San Bernardino county.

Photos from The California National Guard show more than 20 people packed inside a rescue helicopter.

High temperature across the state have also made it very difficult to control the fires with the highest temperature ever recorded in Los Angeles county at 49C (121F).
