The Cabinet have agreed to lift the extra lockdown restrictions that have been placed on Co Kildare following a meeting of the National Public Health Emergency Team today.
The restrictions were introduced on the 7th of August in Kildare along with Laois and Offaly.
Kildare’s restrictions were extended however, as the Covid-19 cases in the county had not stabilised to a sufficient number.
As the numbers began to stabilise, the restrictions were eased.
Independent TD Cathal Berry told Newstalk Breakfast over the weekend that the “numbers are very, very reassuring – in fact actually encouraging”.
Fianna Fáil’s Kildare North TD James Lawless told ‘The Journal.ie’ that “The people of Kildare have earned a break now,”.
He added that although restrictions have been eased, the people’s vigilance must remain.
