Woman in critical condition after being inside body bag for two hours

Twenty-year-old Timesha Beauchamp is in critical condition after she was found alive inside a body at the James H Cole funeral home in Detroit.

Timesha was born with cerebral palsy has always needed constant medical care.

After being declared dead, she was placed inside a body bag by police in her family’s home, she was found breathing inside the body bag two hours later when she arrived at the funeral home.

The timeline events leading up to the incident took place as such:

On Sunday, Timesha’s family called 911. This was because Timesha receives three breathing treatments a day for her medical condition to which her brother and mother became concerned following her first treatment of the day after noticing that she was in distress.

Timesha had suffered a seizure and four paramedics responded within 15 minutes. Following life-saving efforts, Lawyer Geoffrey Fieger stated that what happened next remained “very, very murky” and Timesha was declared dead.

Geoffrey Fieger has begun an investigation into the incident at the family’s request and stated that “negligence” is what lead to Timesha being incorrectly declared dead. Mr. Fieger stated “She was alive. Her eyes were open and she was breathing. My recollection is that the embalmer was actually there and was the person who opened the body bag”.

An internal investigation is being conducted by the city of Southfield but they stated that both fire and police departments had followed procedures.
