COVID-19: Eight more workers test positive at O’Brien Fine Foods in Kildare

O’Brien Fine Foods in Kildare has confirmed that a further eight workers have tested positive for Covid-19.

Over the past two weeks, the Timahoe meat processing plant confirmed that 86 staff members had the virus which lead to the suspension of the factory’s operations on the 5th of August when a deep clean of the premises began.

A further six workers tested positive on the 6th of August which lead to an extension on the testing programme.

On day seven and day 14 of the incubation period, employees were retested by the HSE.

The company stated that “Of 177 tests conducted on day seven, we can confirm that eight employees have received a positive result, 169 employees have tested negative,”. They added that “As with previous cases, the level of asymptomatic infectivity appears to be very high”.

The company still hopes to resume its full operations on Monday, this will be determined by the HSE.
