West Cork council on high alert following flooding

Council officials in west Cork are on high alert following flooding in the area which has damaged 15 local homes and businesses.

The overnight flooding also closed off a section on the N71.

The main road from Clonakilty to Skibbereen has been closed this afternoon as excess water is being cleared away by council workers.

There are concerns that further flooding will commence as there is more rain forecast scheduled for later on.

Traffic is being diverted through Rosscarbery.
