Bank of Ireland vows to reimburse all victims of smishing scam following many customers losing money

Bank of Ireland customers who lost money due to smishing scams will be reimbursed, the bank has said.

Customers reported receiving a fraudulent text message acting as the Bank, subsequently resulting in people losing money to a ‘smishing’ scam, some losing thousands of euros.

Today, the bank confirmed that it would reimburse all customers identified as being impacted by the scam.

The bank is also carrying out a review and has launched a campaign to highlight the tactics used by criminals and scammers.
