At least 11 dead following fire at Covid-19 testing facility in India

At least 11 deaths have been reported after a fire broke out at a Covid-19 testing facility located in Vijayawada, India.

The fire broke out this morning at 5am local time (23:30 GMT Saturday) at Hotel Swarna Palace which is currently being used as a Covid-19 testing centre.

The fire has been brought under control and rescue operations are now underway which has lead to 22 people being rescued so far.

Senior police officer Srinivasulu stated that an electrical short-circuit appeared to be the cause of the fire.
