Investigation underway by gardaí after a man was shot dead in Ballyfermot

A man in his 50s has died following a shooting that occurred at a house in the Croftwood Park area of Ballyfermot at approximately 11am.

Gardaí have stated that the attack was planned and targeted and that it had the hallmarks of a gang-related attack.

It is believed that a number of gunmen arrived at the house and shot the victim a number of times at the doorstep.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two cars are being examined which are believed to have been used in the attack as they were found burnt out in two separate areas.

The first car, a Ford Fiesta, was found burnt out at Le Fanu Drive in Ballyfermot.

The second car, a Skoda, was found in the Monksfield area of Clondalkin.
