Gardaí have arrested a man following the fatal stabbing of a man in his 70s in Dublin

A man in his 40s has been arrested by gardaí after a man in his 70s was fatally stabbed this morning in Clonsilla, Dublin at approximately 5:55am.

Gardaí responded to reports of an assault that took place in the Whitechapel Road area of Clonsilla.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

A man, aged in his 40s, barricaded himself inside a nearby house where he was later arrested.

Nobody else was inside the house at the time.

Investigations are ongoing.
