Ireland and Apple have won their appeal against the EU’s €13 billion tax ruling

An EU court has ruled in favour of Ireland and Apple in their appeal against the European Commission’s finding that the country breached state aid rules in its dealings with the multinational.

The European Commission previously ordered the US company to hand back €13 billion in unpaid tax and over €1 billion in interest payments to the Irish government

Ireland and Apple appealed that ruling and the General Court of the European Union has now found in their favour.

The tax controversy has sparked debate in Ireland and across the EU in recent years.
