French bus driver dies after he is beaten by passengers over mask-wearing rules

Two men have been charged with attempted murder, to which prosecutor ‘Jerome Bourrier’ told AFP that he would ask for the charges to be updated following the death of 59-year-old bus driver ‘Philippe Monguillot’.

The 59-year-old was beaten by passengers after he asked them to wear face coverings.

The incident, which took place in Bayonne, France, left Monguillot brain dead but he died last night following a decision made by his family to switch off his life-support system, telling AFP that “We decided to let him go. The doctors were in favour and we were as well,”.

Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin stated that “The coward responsible must not go unpunished,”.

A silent march was organised by his family in his honour.
