Italy may section those who refuse Covid-19 treatment

Anyone who refuses Covid-19 hospital treatment in Italy could be sectioned according to Health Minister ‘Roberto Speranza’.

This follows a cluster of infections that arose in the northern Veneto region.

The infections were triggered by a man returning from Serbia who initially refused hospital treatment.

Speranza also warned that those who are infected with Covid-19 but break isolation rules face jail.

Under Italian law, if an individual negligently spreads an epidemic they could face a 12-year prison sentence, a life sentence could be faced by those who wilfully spread it.
