Figures show that 6,666 abortions were carried out last year following the repeal of the Eight Amendment

According to official figures, there was 6,666 abortions carried out last year following the repeal of the Eight Amendment.

The majority of these cases were carried out in the first 12 weeks of pregnancy.

The Department of Health stated that in a further 100 cases, an abortion was carried out due to a condition that would have lead to the death of the foetus.

There was a risk to life/health to the mother in 12 cases, and in three cases there was a risk to life or health in an emergency case.
