Fianna Fáil leader Micheál Martin has been elected Taoiseach

Fianna Fáil leader Micheál Martin has been elected Taoiseach.

Martin was elected by the Dáil today after Fianna Fáil, Fine Gael and Green Party members voted in favour of the Programme for Government yesterday.

Leo Varadkar will assume the role of Tanaiste in the new government.

Martin will serve as Taoiseach until December 2022 when the role will rotate back to Fine Gael leader Leo Varadkar.
