A post-mortem examination is to take place after a woman was attacked yesterday in Dublin

The body of a woman, identified as Jean Eagers (57), is to undergo a post-mortem examination after she was attacked yesterday in Dublin.

The incident took place yesterday morning at her home in Willow Wood Grove in Hartstown.

Detectives and members of the Armed Support Unit had to forcibly enter the property where a man in his 60s was then arrested.

It is understood that a number of weapons such as a samurai sword and a meat cleaver were used.

Jean was treated at the scene but was pronounced dead a short time later.

A murder investigation is now underway.
