COVID-19: Sweden’s death toll exceeds 5,000

Sweden’s Covid-19 death toll has now surpassed 5,000.

Figures released by the country’s Public Health Agency show that a total of 5,041 deaths linked to Covid-19 have been reported.

The country has also reported 54,562 confirmed cases.

The country has received criticism for not imposing strict lockdown measures as it allowed cafes, bars, restaurants and businesses to stay open, as well as schools for children under 16.

State epidemiologist ‘Ander Tegnell’ stated that although cumulative figures were going up, newly reported deaths were on the decrease.
