Senior Lecturer in Biochemistry and Cell Biology at University College Cork ‘Dr Anne Moore’ has described the discovery of a drug used to treat Covid-19 as “a really good breakthrough”.
The drug ‘dexamethasone’ is an anti-inflammatory, broad spectrum drug.
According to Dr Moore ‘Dexamethasone’ is the first drug, in some cases,to prevent death for people who are on ventilators.
Dr Moore added that in relation to the trail results, there is good statistical confidence.
WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus stated “This is the first treatment to be shown to reduce mortality in patients with Covid-19 requiring oxygen or ventilator support,”.
