A teenager has died following an incident off Antrim coast

A young man has died after getting into difficulties while swimming off the Antrim coast.

The young man was part of a group of four who were swimming close to Dunluce Castle in the Bushmills area at approximately 5pm yesterday.

According to Judith McNeice, from the Maritime and Coastguard Agency, stated that “The others were trying to help their friend and they made valiant efforts to try and rescue him. One of them suffered some minor injuries and was treated at the scene”.

The young man was taken out of the water by Portrush Lifeboat personnel but was pronounced dead at the scene.
