Gardaí report 64 incidents involving spitting and coughing towards them

A total of 64 cases involving members of the gardaí being spat or coughed at have been reported during the past month.

According to the gardaí, anti-spit guards were used 47 times between April and May.

Up until last Saturday, gardaí have invoked regulations 192 times out of hundreds of thousands of public interactions.

They added that the majority of people are adhering to the public health guidelines.
