Investigation underway by gardaí following checkpoint demonstration that blocked traffic in Galway

Gardaí are investigating a protest that took place at a Covid-19 checkpoint on the N84 in Galway.

A number of people protested on the Galway to Castlebar road last night which prevented traffic from moving in either direction.

The demonstrators were objecting to the presence of garda checkpoints in their locality.

The blockade ended at approximately 11pm with the arrival of Garda reinforcements.

No arrests have been made yet.
