Co-founder of aftobeat and legendary drummer ‘Tony Allen’ has died at the age of 79 in Paris.
Tony’s manager ‘Eric Trosset’ stated that the cause of death is unknown. He stated that “He was in great shape, it was quite sudden. I spoke to him at 1pm, then two hours later he was sick and taken to Pompidou hospital where he died”.
Tony was the drummer and musical director of the band Africa ’70 to which he founded along with his old bandmate Fela Kuti.
Both Kuti and Allen also created afrobeat which combined West African music styles with jazz and funk.
They recorded 40 albums with Africa ’70.
