Gardaí arrest man for failing to stop at Covid-19 checkpoint

A man has been arrested by gardaí after he failed to stop at a Covid-19 checkpoint in the Mitchelstown area, Co Cork.

The car left the public road and hit the gate of a farm. The driver, aged in his 20s, then proceeded on foot.

He was later arrested by gardaí on suspicion of drug-driving and other road traffic offences.

He is currently being detained at Fermoy Garda Station.
