Official figures show Covid-19 cases beginning to slow down in Europe

New official figures show a decrease in Covid-19 cases throughout Europe.

Spain has reported its second successive daily fall in Covid-19 deaths with the total number now standing at 11,744.

The number of new cases in Spain is also on the decrease. Italy’s daily rise of new infections has dropped to 4% with the number of people recovering on the increase.

Chief Medical Officer of Italy’s worst-hit Lombardy region stated that “the numbers are improving” and that “Our hospitals are starting to breathe”.

Although these figures show hope, European governments have stated that restrictions will not be loosened anytime soon.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel stated that “it is definitely much too early to see a clear trend” in terms of these improving statistics.
