India’s Prime Minister announces a 21-day “total lockdown”

India’s Prime Minister ‘Narendra Modi has announced that his country will go into “total lockdown” for the next 21 days.

This decision has been made to tackle the spread of Covid-19.

With a population of 1.3billion people, the entire country will go into lockdown from midnight (18:30 Irish time).

The restrictions include sealing borders and restricting movement to only essential services.

The Prime Minister added “If these 21 days are not managed, the country and your family will go back 21 years. I am not saying this as your prime minister, I am saying it as your fellow citizen, family member”.
