Brother of Manchester Arena bomber ‘Hashem Abedi’ has been charged with 22 counts of murder for assisting with the plotting of the 2017 Manchester Arena attacks with his brother ‘Saman Abedi’.
Hashem was not present at the Old Bailey to hear the jury deliver their verdict as he sacked his legal team in the last week of the trial.
He offered no defence to the charges made against him.
Hashem’s fingerprints were discovered at key addresses where the bombs were constructed as well the Nissan Micra which contained traces of the explosives used in the attacks.
Although he was in Libya at the time of the attack, Duncan Penny QC stated that Hashem was ‘just as responsible for this atrocity, as surely as if he had selected the target and detonated the bomb himself’.
A public inquiry into the bombing is due to begin in June.
