Garda Sean Lucey (42) has been given a 12-month suspended sentence after he struck RTÉ cameraman ‘Colm Hand’.
The incident occurred on the 6th of February 2016 during a protest between the right wing group ‘Pediga’ and counter protestors.
Lucey, who was a member of the Garda Public Order Unit, struck Colm Hand’s camera and hit him in the groin.
The jury found Lucey guilty by a ten-two majority.
Judge Greally described the act as “an unjustified act of aggression” and imposed a 12-month-sentence.
However, she intended to regard what Lucey done as an aberration and fully suspended the sentence.
