Former UN chief Javier Perez de Cuellar dies aged 100

At the age of 100, former UN chief Javier Perez de Cuellar has died.


He was known for his peace-making efforts which included brokering a ceasefire in the Iran-Iraq war.

He served as the UN secretary-general from 1981 to 1991.

De Cuellar died in his native country of Peru his son stated.

His remains will lie at the Peruvian foreign ministry before his burial tomorrow.
