First coronavirus case confirmed in the Republic of Ireland

The Department of Health has confirmed that a man has tested positive for the coronavirus in the east of the country.

The man had initially travelled from an area in Northern Italy that was affected by the virus.

Searches are underway for anyone who may have come into contact with the man.

All stages of his journey are to be identified by the Health Protection Surveillance Centre.

The man is currently being hospitalised.
