Gardaí are investigating a road crash in Cavan where two people lost their lives

A road crash involving two vehicles in Co Cavan has resulted in two deaths.

The collision involved a car and a jeep on the N55 road in Ballinagh which occurred approximately at 7pm yesterday.

Both occupants of the car, a man and a woman in their 60s, were pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the jeep was taken to Cavan General Hospital.

A total of 24 deaths have taken place on the roads this year, 15 of those deaths took place in February.
