The 2.4 metre post-ceasefire steel interface fence in Co Armagh is to be removed this Summer.
Owned by the Department of Justice, the fence, which was set up one year after the Good Friday Agreement in Margretta Park, was created to separate unionist and nationalist communities across Northern Ireland.
The fence is only one of the many barriers designed for this purpose. Justice Minister Naomi Long stated that work was ongoing on other interface structures in terms of size reduction and full removal.
Two spokespersons from the department made a statement that the structures were no longer needed and that the gates have not been closed in over a decade.
The barrier is to be replaced with a small decorative fence.
