Mick McCarthy – Ireland will qualify for Euro 2020 if they overcome Slovakia

Mick McCarthy is taking a cautious approach to Ireland’s first Euro 2020 qualifying fixture in Slovakia, aware of the quality of the Slovakian squad.

“The first one is the key one,” McCarthy stated. “If we win the first one, I think we’ll win the second one, we’ll get momentum and we’ll win the second one. But we’ve got to beat Slovakia first and they are no mugs by any stretch.”

A victorious away fixture in Slovakia would see the Republic of Ireland face Northern Ireland in Belfast for one shot at getting to Euro 2020.

“I’m not going to be intimidated going to Windsor Park to be quite honest and I dont think the players are going to be either,” McCarthy concluded.
