Donald Trump confirms killing of Al-Qaeda chief in Yemen

US President Trump confirmed the US had killed the leader of Al-Qaeda in Arabian Peninsula, days after Al-Qaeda claimed responsibility for a mass shooting at a US naval base.

The US “conducted a counter-terrorism operation in Yemen that successfully eliminated Qassim al-Rimi, a founder and the leader of al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula,” Trump said.

In the statement, the President did not give any information on the circumstances or the timing of the operation.

In the naval base attack, eight people were wounded, including two responding sheriff’s deputies, before police shot dead the assailant.
