Speculation growing that a general election could be called in days

There is growing speculation that Taoiseach Leo Varadkar will call a general election in the coming days.

It is being widely suggested that he will call it before the Dáil reconvenes on Wednesday.

Mr Varadkar held talks with the Fianna Fáil leader Micheál Martin last week to discuss the matter and is due to meet him again this week.

Last night Independent TD Michael Lowry said he believes the Taoiseach will call an election before the Dáil gets a chance to debate a confidence motion in the Minister for Health.
