Candidates fined over €30k for breaching election poster rules

Dublin City Council has handed out over €30,000 in fines to candidates who broke the rules on putting up posters around the recent elections.

It issued 232 fines to candidates whose posters were up too early or were not taken down soon enough after polling day.

GDPR regulations barred the Council from releasing the names of the candidates who were fined.

Posters can only be erected 30 days before polling day and must be removed within seven days of polling day.
