Spain’s Supreme Court finds Catalan leaders guilty of sedition

Earlier today (Monday), the Spanish Supreme Court found nine Catalan leaders guilty of sedition over their role in the 2017 bid for independence.

The referendum on Catalan independence had been banned by the Spanish government, but went ahead despite efforts to prevent it.

They have been sentenced to between 9 and 13 years in prison.

A further three defendants were found guilty of disobedience and were not sentenced to prison.
